About the Farmer

Abra Morawiec graduated from Bernard Baruch College  in 2009 and served in the United States Peace Corps  as an Agricultural Extension Volunteer in Mali, West Africa. She served in the village of Mougui, located in the Mopti region, and worked closely with farmers, women and youth associations on projects deemed important by members of the community.

After returning from the Peace Corps, she worked briefly with the Brooklyn Rescue Mission as an AmeriCorps volunteer and in 2011 made her way to the North Fork of Long Island to pursue a career in commercial agriculture. A two year apprenticeship at Garden of Eve opened Abra's eyes to the opportunities available to young farmers on the East End, which eventually led her to work for Phil Barbato of Biophilia Organic Farm as well as Chris and Holly Browder of Browder's Birds.

In the fall of 2015, Abra launched her own enterprise "Feisty Acres" upon realizing there was a niche to fill with her certified organic, pasture raised game birds. She now sells meat and eggs to local stores and restaurants and has spearheaded the Feisty Acres Bobwhite Quail Release Project with the intention re-invigorating native quail populations.
